Afternoon Class 1-5pm
Come join the fun and camaraderie. Everyone bring a “Thrift Shop Treasure” - something wonderful you’d love to embellish with metal yourself AND you’re willing to part with. Brown-bag the item before class so no one can see what you’ve brought and then we’re going to do a “Thrift-gift Exchange”. The new-to-you treasure you garner in the exchange will become your art project for the afternoon.

Are you fascinated with handmade books?
Are you interested in creating your own book structures and content?
Originally designed by Nancy Solomon and Alice Vinson and offered to PaperWorks members, this one-day workshop will walk you through seven separate bookmaking techniques, eight if you include the bag. Each “book” is made from a single piece of paper and requires no sewing! You’ll leave class inspired, with a bag full of books you made yourself AND lots of creative ideas for adding your own special touches to future book projects.

**For this class you will need at least a 15” ruler. I will have a few on hand but it’s always nice to have your own -- no waiting. Also, please bring a glue stick, a sharp X-acto knife and a bone folder.**

Copper Clad Book and Dee’s Box

Copper Clad Book - We’ll creatively jump start our morning with a petite 2.5” x 3.25” copper clad book sporting a full metal jacket (embossed of course!) and your choice of two very different interior page designs.

Dee’s Box - The afternoon class is named for Dee who found these fabulous boxes and did such a great job embellishing hers, we decided we all needed to have one too. The box is 6” x 6” x 3.25” with a rustic patinaed finish inside and out, so no need to stain or paint the wood. *Class pricing reflects “with Box” and “without Box.”, limited supplies available. If you prefer to bring your own box, please do so. The top should be no larger than 6” x 6”.

Milagros in the Morning & Tin-Zangled Bookmarks

Do you believe in Miracles? Milagro means “miracle” in Spanish and the Heart symbolizes love and gratitude. Bestow the gift of a love miracle and give a milagro heart to someone special. Several patterns to choose from or design your own.

Pewter Sampler and “Cut Lace”

Repujado (ray-poo-ha-though)

Repujado, the fine art of metal embossing. Also known as metal embossing or metal relief, and always crafted by hand, Repujado is the working of metal to give volume and relief to the decorative design engraved on the metal.

The Pewter Sampler is a great beginner’s class AND a fun way to brush up on basic Repujado techniques. Here’s your chance to play and experiment with Cups & Balls, Star Wheels, Tire Treads, Morse Code, Brass Brushes, Refiners, a luscious 6”x 6” square of pewter, and more ...

Lynda will share her tools and expertise - and you’ll leave class with a beautiful pewter sampler. Your finished piece will look beautiful framed or perhaps adorning a treasured box or journal.

P.S. We will take a 1-hour lunch break (1-2pm).   If you’ve signed up for the full day, please bring your lunch or plan to visit one of the eateries nearby.

Our afternoon class project revolves around a Repujado technique called “Cut Lace”.
No worries, you will not be using an x-acto knife!

You will emboss, practice “cutting”, bezel and bejewel on Pewter. Your “cut lace” will be handsomely displayed over a substrate of REAL shell laminate - several types and colors to choose from.

Photo Flag Book -and-  OPALS in the Afternoon

Celebrate Arizona’s Centennial birthday with a southwest photo flag book! Our morning class combines bookmaking and metal embossing techniques. We will create a simple Flag Book utilizing a Sonoran landscape photo and finish it off with an embossed metal embellishment and ribbon ties.

In the afternoon we’ll play with OPALS ... a set of beautiful embossing enamels from “down under”. Add shimmering color to glass, cardboard, metal, etc. Create Faux Carnival Glass, learn to marble, add fabulous texture, and more! with these gorgeous enamels.
