From Baskets to Beads... and BEYOND!

Cheryl Baker grew up in a family that celebrates their artistic expression.  From an early age she was encouraged to find her own special artistic voice.  Always a writer, she worked in television, radio, and then went on to a ‘real’ job in corporate training.  But Cheryl’s love of history and folk lore led her to explore various ‘old crafts’ until she determined that traditional basket weaving satisfied her artistic need for color, texture and meticulous hand work.  Cheryl created beautiful Appalachian and Shaker baskets for juried shows, specialty catalogs and reproductions for museum shops for eight years before moving to Arizona.

One trip to the Glendale Bead Museum was all it took for her to fall in love with beads and the jewelry making process.  Ten years later, Cheryl is a certified Precious Metal Clay (PMC) fine silver artisan and revels in the freedom of designing with color, shape and form.

Cheryl retired from the corporate world last year and now enjoys teaching PMC courses, chainmaille workshops and beading classes at Creative Destination, an awe-inspiring bead shop in Mesa, Arizona.  Cheryl is designing kits and instructions for numerous original pieces and they will be available soon.

Latest News!  Cheryl’s artwork was accepted and has been published in the Premier edition of the PMC Guild's newest publication, “The PMC Guild Annual”.  The Annual was sent to all Guild members in October 2007.  Congratulations Cheryl!

Cheryl’s jewelry will be on exhibit in conjunction with the 2008 PMC conference at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.  The exhibit, titled 57/1: Artists from the Premier Edition of the PMC Guild Annual, will open May 12, 2008 and runs through August 1, 2008.
